Measurement Questions

Answers to questions:
1. In each graph there is one piece of measurement that had about nine people in it.
2. Two in the first graph, two in the second, ten in the third, none in the fourth, and two in the last one.
3. The height trait had the most variation.
4. Having a variated trait means every organism in a species is not exactly the same and this is important for evolution and diversity. If every organism in a species was exactly the same than the entire species could be wiped out from one disease.
5. Having an extreme trait such as being stronger than another organism in a species could be beneficial because than the stronger one will have an advantage, for example, when fighting over food.
6. In every person's DNA the pattern of the order of the base pairs are different and this is what makes you who you are.
7. A gene is a series of the nucleotides along one side of the DNA ladder. DNA is deoxyribonucleic acid and it is found inside the nucleus. It is the key to controlling enzyme production. I got my DNA from my parents.

Scientific Names

Great White Shark
Animalia, Chordata, Chondrichthyes, Lamniformes, Lamnidae, Carcharodon, carcharias.

Cheetah
Animalia, Chordata, Mammalia, Carnivora, Felidae, Acinonyx, jubatus.

Hammer Head Shark
Animalia, Chordata, Chondrichthyes, Carcharhiniformes, Sphyrnidae, Sphyrna, mokkaran.

Spotted Hyena
Animalia, Chordata, Mammalia, Carnivora, Hyaenidae, Crocuta, crocuta.

Lion
Animalia, Chordata, Mammalia, Carnivora, Felidae, Panthera, Leo.

All of these animals are from the phylum Chordata, because they all have spinal chords. The lion and the cheetah both have the same phylum, class, order, and family, but the hyena only shares the same phylum, class, and order. I thought these three would share the same family, because they are all like big cats. The great white shark and the hammerhead shark are more different than I thought. I thought they would share everything except the genus and species, but they are only similar in kingdom, phylum, and class.

My Question: What makes these two sharks so much more different than I thought they would be?

Anwser To My Question

Cacti are able to survive in the desert because they have special abilities that let them conserve the little water that they get, for a long time. One thing that helps, are the prickly spines. These are actually highly modified leaves which reduce the loss of water by restricting air flow near the cactus. These spines also prevent plant-eating animals to eat the cacti. Cacti also have specialized stems that allow them to store water for a long time.

My Question

My question is:
How does a cactus survive in the desert?
